Edward McCay > Registered Representative"One of the most important aspects of our career is personal contact."
Growing up in a family that owned and operated a lumber business, I learned the value of hard work at a very young age. I watched my father and grandfather run the family business with dedication, and witnessed their commitment to their clients. One of the most important lessons they taught me was to treat your clients like family. After serving in the military, I began to search for a career. I went on many interviews and chose First Investors for its financial philosophies, dedicated support structure and strong mentor program. The "in-the-field" training style First Investors employed was a style I was comfortable with, due to my experiences in the military. Moreover, the training I received from my manager Larry Hess when I started has been fundamental to my success today. From the beginning, I took the approach that starting a career at First Investors was much like starting any business. Financial services is a career that takes the right combination of hard work and time. I took the skills I had learned from the family business—commitment, empathy—and those I had gained in the military—persistence, accountability, adaptability—and set off to build my own successful business. I laid the foundation of my business through cold calling, and put up the walls with the referrals I received. I've found that one of the most important aspects of our career is personal contact. Whether it's a phone call or a birthday card, it shows that we appreciate and care about our clients. I feel blessed to have been able to build long-lasting relationships with my clients. I will continue to guide my clients toward achieving both their short- and long-term financial goals; this is even more imperative in the current economic climate. I would like to thank my wife Megan and my son Brendan for being so supportive. Megan even posted the weekly reports on the refrigerator as a motivational tool. I could not have achieved any measure of success without their encouragement. |
